MGS4: Original Soundtrack
Composers
Harry Gregson-Williams and Nobuko Toda
Once again, Gregson-Williams offers a very deep and compelling Metal Gear Solid soundtrack. Whilst the soundscape is quite diverse, the main signature of this album is the merging of classical compositions with electronic sounds and beats (although that seems the norm these days). Fast, syncopated drumming accompanies many of the tracks, which often begin with violins and swirl into action set pieces. As he offered in his work for Kingdom of Heaven, there are some Middle Eastern themes in the mix, which suit the game’s setting perfectly. Nobuko Toda’s work provides most of the atmospheric pieces for the game – the in between, background moments that build tension. There are a lot of tracks over the two discs, and it does meander somewhat towards the middle, but then inevitably builds again with the game’s main themes. The few vocal tracks are also a welcome addition. If you’re a fan of MGS4, you’ll get a buzz out of listening to this, and you can pick it up for a pretty good price online too.
