Funtime Friday: Rage
There are some games that just make people irrationally angry. I’m not talking about ridiculously hard platformers like Super Meat Boy, but those games that are competitive on the really infuriating, soul-destroying level.
Who's your daddy? Well, your biological father, I'd presume.
Heroes of Newerth isn’t a nice place to be. I don’t like the world of Newerth, or whatever it’s called – some of the most unpleasant, distasteful individuals inhabit Newerth.
I’m struggling to think of anything that can be simultaneously torturous and nail-bitingly exciting at the same time. Admittedly, if I wasn’t playing with friends, I’d never play HoN.
And that’s an interesting element that differentiates games of this era from ones in the 90s – communication. Games have had voice chat for nearly a decade, while third-party programs have been around for 15 years (Roger Wilco being the first). But there’s a world of difference between allowing players to talk and making it a central part of gameplay.
HoN is free to play. I wouldn’t recommend playing it on a regular basis – but it’s worth trying just to realise some of the different factors that influence gaming.
I’m a LoL man myself, but I can stand to solo queue, so I’ll be hitting it up this weekend as well as watching it on the IEM stream. RvB Ganked Night 13 is also this weekend, so EVE will get some loving as well.
