Funtime Friday: Rage

Change is difficult at the best of times, but it becomes exceptionally tough when you’re impeded by bugs.

Most of which I suspect you, dear reader, will have encountered by the end of tonight.

The death screens could use some work.

It’s Battlefield 3 time boys and girls – I mean, honestly, were you really going to be doing anything else?

There’s two maps in the beta right now, but most people will end up playing Operation Metro the most. The game plays out identically to the rush modes in Bad Company 2; destroy the first two objectives and you earn yourself more tickets to go capture the next two.

Derploy, copyright me.

When BF3 first loaded – after two hours of farting about with Origin, device drivers and all the other arcane rubbish that goes on under the hood – I actually thought I was playing Crysis 2 for a second. The opening stages of Metro are not too dissimilar, with dogfights occurring at various places around what could be any of the Big Apple’s parks.

The underground is a sniper's dream. Too bad the rifle isn't.

You’ll eventually gravitate, by hook or by crook, to the subway, which is an absolute dream if you’re a bastard playing the recon class. This is the second level of the underground; the first level is far more conducive to fans of old-school Quake 3 or Counter-Strike deathmatch.

It’s absolute chaos, but that’s par for the course with any pub game of Battlefield. Nevertheless, this is something that I’ll be checking out more of on the weekend – and without a doubt, you will be too. If you haven’t downloaded the beta already, head over to the EA website to get your PC, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 locked and loaded.

Downloading the Beta for PC right now, ElGravy is my Origin name (Add me, I’m so lonely). Plan on spending equal time on RO2 and BF3B this weekend.

  • I’ll be putting more time in Space Marine, both in the single-player and the multi. I noted on this latest podcast that MP is fairly generic, but still really fun. It’s solidly built, and there’s really nothing to complain about. It’s not revolutionary, but not all MP games need to be.

I’m still on the Singaporean XBL server, and BF3 hasn’t appeared on it yet. So I’m really hoping that it’ll go live for me soon. And if it does, there’ll be plenty of BF3 this weekend as well.
