Review Scores Explained

What does it all mean?

Review scores… the final frontier… or is that something else?

Yes, we are assigning scores now. No, we haven’t had any luck scoring lucrative advertising deals or under-the-table cash piles for giving a game a 10/10. So without any more preamble, here are our brand new score descriptions, which Pixel Hunt writers must follow to the letter, on pain of console confiscation for three weeks!

1: Absolutely broken, unplayable. You’ll give up trying to get a game started.

2: Many things wrong. It feels unfinished and is an insult to players.

3: One or two really glaring faults make this game a stinker. Best to avoid.

4: It’s okay, but there’s nothing about it that stands out. Bland and mediocre.

5: Perfectly playable but forgettable. You might grab it on special.

6: Above average with some interesting elements. It has a heart and some style shining through.

7: Well developed and maintains interest throughout, but with a few elements that drag it down.

8: A standout effort. Solid, enjoyable and engaging.

9: A truly excellent title. Highly polished, deeply immersive and must be purchased.

10: Reserved for the epitomy of a gaming genre. An instant classic. Almost perfect.

A ten point scale where all ten points are in use? What manner of black sorcery be this?!?

All video games are 7′s until proven 10′s. It’s a known fact :)

  • It’s an intense irony that our first scored game is a 7.

  • Sounds good.

  • I am going to start rating people with this. Should work out well!
